Games That Would Be Awesome On The iPad

After brainstorming some ideas on what game to create for the iPhone/iPod touch/iPad, I came to the dilemma of having most of my ideas either taken from another game or something that sounds a lot like their original counterparts.

First game for the iPad is Finger Twister. The iPad selects the user to put whatever finger on whatever color on the iPad but the user must keep his fingers on the iPad or else he looses the game. One twist would be to do a timed session, where the user is given only a couple seconds to react.

Next is Monopoly. With the iPhone/iPod Touch support where you can sync the iPhone/iPod Touch to the iPad through WiFi or Bluetooth wherein you can keep track of your expenses, cards and owned land. The iPad takes care of the “banker” role and does the transactions that way and sends it to the appropriate user whoever you’re “renting” to to pass by.

Apples to Apples is next with the same iPhone/iPod Touch support. The “it” person would simply tap the green car in the middle to reveal the word and the rest of the users would simply flick their best cards from their iPhones/iPod Touches. The “it” person would then reveal the cards one at a time and maybe a button to choose which card fits best. One feature could be to have the “it”‘s word card’s definitions float across the screen while everyone’s deciding on which card to use.

Risk would be an awesome iPad game… think about it, shake the iPad to roll the dice, and tap and drag to move your soldiers.

A simple game show game: Deal Or No Deal, Wheel Of Fortune, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, 1 VS 100, Jeopardy, ETC. (with iPhone/iPod Touch support to submit their answers), would also look awesome on the iPad.

You’d think they’ve started making these, huh? I wish to see more games like these that integrate the iDevices features in the future.

So… Is there a game that you would like to see on the iPad?

Left4Dead’s New Update: Survival Pack

The long anticipation is over. The update’s here! Vavle‘s awesome game of the year, Left4Dead has brought waves of zombie lovers all over the world. From tactics, to planning to surviving to keeping each other alive… or not! Left4Dead is pretty much the best zombie game ever made! Since its release in 2007, it has brought many fans the excitement it can muster. But 2007 is so not today! People want more!

And so, with Valve’s ingenious updates, Left4Dead has brought itself to a whole new level that people will love. Although we didn’t get new maps for Left4Dead, Valve has released the Editor! Not only can you edit and make the game yourself, you can play it and share it with your friends.

Some new features in the maps are the updated building architechture; in other words, more hiding spaces for the infected. It has added new rooms and has given the players new places to duck and cover. Also, in the update, they’ve made the Versus Mode available to all the maps. They’ve also put a distinction between the Versus maps and the Campaign maps.

They’ve also updated the infected’s powers, so to say. They’ve given players more control over the Tank and had its health last a little bit longer. They’ve updated the blinding bile from the Boomer; and yes, you really can’t see anything. Given more pounce-ablility to the hunter and a longer range for the smoker. Also, depending on what the skill levels of the players are, they’ve modded the horde so they can spawn quickly in quick attacks.

As stated in Steam:

Survival Mode:

New Gameplay Mode

16 NEW Maps including Last Stand

Leaderboards; and

7 NEW Achievements

Versus Mode:

2 NEW Versus Campaigns

Fixing the scores even thought the scoreboard has opened up

And more…

All in all, this is, by far, the best update ever! I’m off to go see the new maps! So, we’ll see. I’ll try to make my own levels too. As soon as I’m done with all my projects and exams and jobs. Hehe :)

Black Mesa: The Game

Black Mesa Logo

If you’re a fan of the Half-Life Series, chances are, you know the company Black Mesa. And if you’ve played Portal, you know all about it. As technology progresses and as the Source engine tightens, they decided it’s time to revisit the past. They planned on recreating the first ever Half Life story, how it happened, and put a deeper more stable story to go with it. A triler has already been released but the unveiling hasn’t been… yet.

Here’s th trailer (watch it in HD if you can):

It is basically the first ever Half Life game with better graphics and gameplay.

An official website HAS BEEN put up. One complete with level designs, weapon designs, concept artworks, game models, and characters. It also has a feature where the community can actually design a character/weapon/level and just leave it to Source if they actually pick you!

Also, don’t forget to visit their YouTube Channel/Page. There, they show you trailers, tests, walkcycles and more.

All in all, the game looks promising! I just don’t know what people might think in playing a remake of a game they’ve already played.

[UPDATE: 02/08/2010]:

Also, if you’ve visited their website, you may have already discovered that the game WILL BE FREE!!!

YUP! As long as you have a copy of ANY source engine game on steam, Black Mesa will cost you nothing. Zip. Nada.

Valve “Orange Box” Interview

I don’t think there’s a game company that has the best and innovative games as ValvE. They have been making games since 1996 starting with Counter Strike, to the Orange Box to the best zombie game, Left 4 Dead. They have certainly have ramped up their standards giving us games that have a storyline and some action that requires brains to accomplish.

The NEW Nintendo DSi!

Nintedo DSi comes in Black and White

Nintedo DSi comes in Black and White

Upon searching for new technoligies on the interwebz, I stumbled into the upcoming, long awaited (well, in the US anyway because it is already available in Japan in Japanese, duh!) Nintedo DSi.

As you can see from the video, it looks promising and now has the Nintendo Wii feel to it menu-wise. It does come in two colors at the moment: white and black and is only available in Japan in Japanese but I guess the whole world has to wait! Anyway, in further research, I found these mouth-watering specs that will truly keep this portable game device on top.

Pros:

  • 3.25 in dual screens (the DS Lite has 3 in)
  • Power button has been moved to the left side of the Screen which is also works as the HOME button
  • No more volume sliders: they replaced them with buttons so you can’t accidentally hit it while playing
  • It finally has an SD Card slot that can take in photos, videos and some of your music. I haven’t checked out if you can play homebrew games throught that but there’s a pretty good chance that someone will hack his way through it.

[continuation...]

  • TWO CAMERAS!!! Yeah, you heard me, the Nintendo DSi has two cameras, one facing you and the other one facing the other way
  • With the two cameras integrated into the DSi, it also comes with multiple softwares wherein you can warp, colorize, paint and some other ways you can destroy your pictures.
  • Although you can’t play MP3 audio files, it does support AAC Files. It also comes with weird music playback softwares where you can warp, edit and listen to music and have fun while doing so.
  • New Menu (which has a Wii Menu feel to it)
  • You can now “Hotswap” wherein you change the game cartridge by going to the Menu and by not having to turn the entire system off just to play another game.

Cons:

  • No more GBA slots (say goodbye to your Guitar Hero attachments!)
  • Not an MP3 Player just an AAC Player
  • Although  you it does come with a web browser (or you can buy the Opera Browser for ### “DSWare” Points), it’s a pain to use.
